HOLLOWAY I, TWENTY EIGHT ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS, c1802, a collection of finely executed water colour paintings of butterflies and moths, varying sizes but mostly 10x15cm plus margins, each shows an adult insect with the pupa and larva often on the leaf of its foodplant, the monograph “I H” appears on the majority of the numbered leaves and one is dated 1802, there is also a contemporary manuscript sheet which refers to some of the paintings giving the names of the species and page numbers of “Insecta Lepidoptera” and “Systema naturae”, unbound, all in good bright condition. The paintings are similar in style and layout to the prints found in Donovan’s British Insects or Curtis.
