AuthorF W FROHAWK
TitleA NATURAL HISTORY OF BRITISH BUTTERFLIES
DescriptionAnother copy, 1924, 2 vols, folio, with foreword by Lord Rothschild who sponsored Frohawk for many years to produce this work, 4 plain and 60 colour plates, published by Hutchinson & Co. A good clean copy including the plates but front cover of volume 2 has been bent leaving a vertical but flatcrease across the middle. This is the first book to describe and illustrate all the life stages of British butterfly species. Now the ‘classic' twentieth century work with probably the finest and most comprehensive paintings to have been executed. The price reflects the damage to the second volume but still represents extremely good value.
