1. A NATURAL HISTORY OF BRITISH BUTTERFLIES

F W FROHAWK, A NATURAL HISTORY OF BRITISH BUTTERFLIES, 1924, 2 vols, folio, with foreword by Lord Rothschild who sponsored Frohawk for many years to produce this work, 4 plain and 60 colour plates, published by Hutchinson & Co, blue cloth binding with both original dustjackets slightly browned with small tears and ragged edges (not great but the best I've seen for a good many years). Contents and covers in very good condition. This is the first book to describe and illustrate all the life stages of British butterfly species. Now the ‘classic' twentieth century work with probably the finest and most comprehensive paintings to have been executed.

2. A NATURAL HISTORY OF BRITISH BUTTERFLIES

F W FROHAWK, A NATURAL HISTORY OF BRITISH BUTTERFLIES, Another copy, 1924, 2 vols, folio, with foreword by Lord Rothschild who sponsored Frohawk for many years to produce this work, 4 plain and 60 colour plates, published by Hutchinson & Co. A good clean copy including the plates but front cover of volume 2 has been bent leaving a vertical but flatcrease across the middle. This is the first book to describe and illustrate all the life stages of British butterfly species. Now the ‘classic' twentieth century work with probably the finest and most comprehensive paintings to have been executed. The price reflects the damage to the second volume but still represents extremely good value.
